You are potentially going to be near your piercer for a little while; good personal hygiene is greatly appreciated. Have a good meal. Be well hydrated.

  • First Tattoo – 3 Things You Should Know

Before you get a tattoo, there are some things you should know.

    Be Open Minded

You might have been planning your first tattoo for decades, with hundreds of sketches and mood boards. But it would be best if you had an open mind. Your tattoo artist will have advice for you, and you might even find that your tattoo placement is entirely wrong for your tattoo design. If this happens, don’t panic. Listen to your tattoo artist; the ink you leave with might not be what you thought it would be – but it will undoubtedly be better.

    It Always Hurts

While it is true that some tattoo placements hurt more than others, you can’t escape the pain. Tattoos will hurt, but you will get accustomed to it. Some people find that the adrenaline released when the needle hits your skin gives you a high!

After the initial sting, it’s more like sandpaper/sunburn with too much friction-type feeling. If you just cannot handle pain, then tattoos might not be suitable for you. If you’re worried, ask for a small tattoo, like a freckle on your arm, so you can understand what to expect.

    You Need to Prepare

There is a list of things you should do (and not do) before you get a tattoo. Going to a tattoo parlor for a walk-in session for your first tattoo is unwise. Instead, make an appointment with your chosen tattoo artist before you get inked. They will tell you what you need to do.

Once your tattoo is complete, there are aftercare steps that you need to follow as well. So, while experienced tattoo monkeys can handle getting impromptu tattoos when they feel like it, beginners should take more time to think and plan things through.

  • I got a leg tattoo, can I shave?

It is not recommended to shave the tattooed area while it is healing. Once the flaking and peeling process has stopped and your skin is smooth again, it is okay to shave the area. This will be approximately 7-10 days from the day you got your tattoo.

  • Do you pierce with a gun

No. The gun forces blunt jewelry through your body, causing unnecessary damage to the tissue. We use a sharp, single-use, hollow needle that quickly removes enough tissue to make room for your new jewelry. The jewelry we use is frequently one size smaller than the needle to allow for airflow around the jewelry and faster, more comfortable healing. It is less traumatic and painful.

  • What is an allergic reaction to tattoo pigment?

Tattoo ink contains several ingredients and chemicals. Substances like iron oxide, mercury sulfide, ferric hydrate, aluminum, and manganese are a few of the ingredients that may be included in the ink. Mostly this is dependent on the color. An allergy to any of these substances can cause an allergic reaction once the ink gets into your skin.

  • Will we pierce/tattoo pregnant women?

We will pierce a pregnant woman. As long as she is made aware the risks of getting pierced while pregnant.

  • Is it safe to get tattooed with diabetes/other medical conditions?

For clients with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes,  it may be unsafe to get tattooed from the waist down due to poor blood flow or circulation. This may cause a prolonged or difficult healing process for your tattoo.

  • Can I bring my friends/family/kids?

We do allow people in the studio with you and your tattoo artists. However, we do not recommend more than two be in the same room, as it encourages distractions.

We are a family friendly shop but generally discourage bringing your kids while you get tattooed or pierced. You will be responsible for watching them. This will prolong the time you are in the studio and could effect the quality of your tattoo.
