Piercing Aftercare 101: How to Keep Your New Piercing Clean and Happy

👋 Hey everyone, I’m Noah Juchnitz, owner and piercer at Platinum Tattoos off 410 & Evers in San Antonio, TX. If you’ve just gotten a piercing or are planning one soon, this blog is for you. Let’s walk through some smart, safe, and easy aftercare tips to help your piercing heal properly—straight from a pro..

Section 1: Clean Hands First

Before you touch your piercing—even to look at it—wash your hands. Clean hands help prevent infections,

irritation, and all the stuff you don’t want when healing.

Section 2: Saline Over Soap

Skip the antibacterial soap. It can cause more irritation than help.

At Platinum,we recommend using a sterile saline wound wash (available in 2.6 oz or 6.3 oz sizes).

The bigger bottle is just a couple bucks more and worth every penny.

💡 Pro Tip: We prefer the mist spray over stream. It’s gentler and covers the area evenly.

  1. Wash your hands 🖐️

  2. Spray saline on the front and back of your piercing

  3. Wait a few seconds

  4. Spray again—repeat 3–4 times

  5. Use a clean Q-tip to gently remove debris

  6. Do a final rinse spray for good measure

🔁 Repeat daily—once in the morning, once at night.

Section 4: Avoid This Stuff

  • 🌞 Direct Sunlight

  • 🏖️ Beaches & Pools

  • 🛁 Soaking Baths & Hot Tubs

Avoid submerging your piercing in water—yes, even baths. Showers are fine. If you accidentally swim, just clean thoroughly after with your saline.

Section 5: Why Saline is a Rockstar

Saline isn’t just for piercings. It’s also great for:

  • Minor cuts & scrapes

  • Bug bites

  • Reducing swelling or heat

  • Cooling down irritated skin

Just don’t replace medical care with it—talk to your doc for anything serious.

Section 6: Support Local, Heal Smarter

🛍️ Buy your aftercare from local studios—it helps them keep providing great service. We carry high-quality saline for every piercing type.

Section 7: Final Thoughts from Noah

“Piercings heal from the outside in. Your job? Keep the outside clean. Let your body handle the rest.”
— Noah Juchnitz, Platinum Tattoos
